Grenville Firth was born in Hoyland, near Barnsley. He is a Yorkshire member and played league cricket with Rockingham Colliery, Rotherham Town and Aston Hall in the South Yorkshire area, retiring at the age of 54. He lives in Australia during the winter months and has watched Test Cricket, First-Class and League cricket all over the world on well over 1000 grounds.
He is also an avid fan of Barnsley Football Club and has written five books on the clubs history, its players and matches. He watched his first Barnsley match in September 1950 and his first Roses match against Lancashire at Bramall Lane, Sheffield in May 1952.
Married to Jean, he is based in Barnsley, has two sons, Stephen and Andrew and two grandchildren, Ella and William.
