The Little Book of Reading FC

The Little Book of Reading FC

Author: Alan Sedunary

The Little Book of Reading FC

The Little Book of Reading FC delves into the history of one of the oldest clubs in the Football League. Focusing on the many quirky tales and incidents that have befallen the club throughout the years - from their highly publicised Premier League days right back to early amateur days in Victorian England - the author’s eye for the obscure has amused and amazed Reading fans for over 30 years in the club’s matchday programmes. Now, for the first time, these tales and events are brought together in one absorbing book.
Among the items featured are the many weird and obscure sports staged by the club, the numerous (world) records set by Reading and some very strange pitch invaders. Even the inevitable list of club ‘bests’ defies expectations- contrary to convention, rather than simply celebrating great goals and games, it recalls the best rumours, bets and even defeats!
Famous names that have played for Reading, among them George Best, Daley Thompson and Martin Peters, find themselves alongside a football-hating horse, goal scoring nuns and a Premier League footballer who is, allegedly, half-duck.
Still not enough? Sedunary also investigates how Phil Collins was asked to resolve a contentious sending-off, why actress Cherie Lunghie helped to get a Reading manager sacked and when Captain Kirk swapped the Starship Enterprise for Elms Park. All this and more is revealed in The Little Book of Reading FC...
