John Harper has a passion for British history and for his native town of Tamworth. Born in 1958, the eldest son of a Tamworth miner, he left school in 1977 and began working for the Tamworth Herald. Currently assistant editor of the town's award-winning newspaper, John's long-running Herald History column is essential weekly reading for both born-and-bred Tammies and for newcomers alike who want to learn more about the town's fascinating past. From the 1970s to the early 90s, John was a familar figure on stage, appearing in many productions for Tamworth Little Theatre and also performing around the country with pop groups Blue Eclipse and Split Decision. He has narrated several popular history videos including 2000 years in Tamworth. John is married to Maureen and lives in Tamworth.
