Sunderland AFC Cult HeroesAuthor: Rob MasonSunderland AFC Cult HeroesWhat makes a player a cult hero? Well he has to get stuck in, he has to be a ‘100%er’ and he has to be lovable. As much as any team, Sunderland fans love their heroes, and no fan more so than Rob Mason, author of the club’s Complete Record. In this new official SAFC title, Sunderland’s Cult Heroes, Mason takes the reader on a guide through his personal favourites. From Vic Halom and Joe Bolton, to Julio Arca and John Kay, via Dick Malone, Kevin Arnott, Barry Siddall, Chris Makin and Nyron Nosworthy, this is a true treat no fan would want to be without.

Rob Mason has been writing and editing SAFC’s official match programme since 1986. He is also the editor of the club’s official magazines Legion of Light and 24-7. Previous books include Sunderland’s Number Ones and The Sunderland Story, as well as various club annuals and yearbooks. Coming from a strong Sunderland supporting family, Rob’s first match was a 7–1 FA Cup win over Peterborough in 1967, which made him think Sunderland scored seven every week. He waited 20 years for them to repeat the feat.
