Stockport Flashback

Stockport Flashback gives the reader a visual journey through more than a century of evocative photographs from the archives of the Stockport Express and Times.

The result is a trip down memory lane, revisiting subjects of pure nostalgia, through hard news stories, famous faces including many Royal visits, sporting memories and much more that has touched our lives in Stockport through the years.

Stockport Flashback focuses a little glory on the unsung heroes of weekly newspapers – the press photographers. Working under pressure to produce good creative photographs from dozens of assignments every day is not an easy task.
Of course, some of the photographs in this book are reflections of years long ago, but many were taken by staff members who are either still with the newspaper or who, in retirement, can recall the very day they captured the image.

Sometimes the photographs reflect the saddest moments in our town’s story, but they also recall those other unsung heroes who, perhaps, raise money for charity, play local sport or in some other way add to the well-being of our community.
In short Stockport Flashback reflects YOU.
