More Redditch Remembered

The first volume of Redditch Remembered has proved to be so popular that it has had to be reprinted and because of that success the authors have been asked to produce another book along similar lines. More Redditch Remembered will bring back happy memories to many residents of a mature age and provide a glimpse of what Redditch used to be to the young people of the town.

The town of Redditch today is totally different from the town of 40 years ago. The Redditch Development Corporation tore the heart out of ‘old Redditch’ with very little being done to preserve its industrial and social heritage. It not only swept away the shops, offices and factories where people worked, but also the places such as church halls, the Kingfisher Hall and most of the pubs and clubs where they could meet and relax after work. The Fleece Inn, Hungry Man, Nag’s Head, Plumber’s Arms, Rifleman, Rising Sun and the Talbot all disappeared and the existing social network was destroyed.

Through a fascinating collection of carefully selected photographs from the archives of Alan Foxall of the Redditch Pictorial History Society, Ray Saunders of R & S Antiques, the authors have created a vivid image of life in the town of Redditch.
