Images of the City of London: The Square Mile Revealed (Second Edition)

The City of London is a modern, high-tech business city, one of the world’s most important financial centres.

But it wasn’t always like that. The City is where London began and for many hundreds of years it was densely populate and teeming with life. At the turn of the 20th century there was a large resident population of approximately 100,000, compared with about 7,000 today.
It was a busy thriving place, the docks were still functioning and industry and commerce were conducted not only on weekdays but also in the evenings and at weekends. It was also where families lived, worked and played.

The many rare and atmospheric photographs in this book show how the City of London used to be. Once you’ve found out where to look and what to look for, you’ll be surprised at how much of the old City you can still find... and this book will help you to find it.
