Images of Royal Kent - paperbackAuthor: Kent MessengerImages of Royal Kent - paperbackThis book takes an affectionate look at the Royal family through the lenses of photographers in Kent. It brings back memories of hundreds of visits to the county by many members of the Royal family over the decades. They can be seen at Canterbury and Rochester Cathedrals, at the County Show, at the University of Kent, in churches, castles, schools, factories, hospitals, shopping centres, parade grounds and army barracks. They are seen giving comfort after wartime bombing, rallying the troops in Kent’s darkest days, bringing cheer to the elderly and supporting the emergency services, youth groups and charities. Some visits were of national significance, such as the opening of the Channel Tunnel by Queen Elizabeth II. Others kept alive ancient traditions, such as the installation of Queen Ellizabeth the Queen Mother as Lord of the Cinque Ports. Sometimes the visitors were on formal business. At other times they were relaxed, simply enjoying themselves in our county, taking part in sporting, social and family events. Many Royal faces feature in these pages. But many Kentish faces are also here: the faces of people celebrating Coronations and Royal Weddings or joining in nationwide mourning, the faces of some of the many thousands of people who, over the years, have turned out to welcome Royal visitors to their county.
