'Beautiful Jersey, Sun Queen of the British Isles' was how a travel writer described the largest of the Channel Islands in 1900. Sunny it may be, but this tiny piece of land in the English Channel, which owes much to both Britain and Normandy, has also made its name known throughout the world thanks to its famous cow, its Royal potato, its woollen pullover and the American state which took its name.
