Neil Sinclair is the son of a Highlander and was educated in the North of Scotland at Rannoch School and Aberdeen University. He spent most of his working life as a senior curator in Tyne and Wear Museums where his responsibilites included Monkwearmouth Station and Stephenson Railway Museums. His first article on the Highland Railway appeared in 1969 and he has written numerous articles and several books, such as 'The Highland Main Line' and six editions of the 'Strathspey Railway Guide Book', as well as publications on the history of Sunderland and its railways. Neil's book 'Sunderland - City and People sunce 1945' was published by Breedon Books in 2004.
