Coventry: Hidden in Plain Sight

COVENTRY: HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT showcases the hidden side of Coventry – the side that people walk past every day and don’t see, or have ceased to notice.

From the splendor of the new St. Michael’s Cathedral, to the undercroft of the original St Mary’s Priory, and from modern sculpture to worn stonework, this unique book takes you on a visual tour of Coventry city centre.

The only colour photobook on modern Coventry, COVENTRY: HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT has over 300 photographs with captions, checked by Coventry historian David McGrory, which document often overlooked features of the city.

The book will appeal to tourists and residents of Coventry alike, as everyone will be able to find something new and interesting in the book - something that’s been hidden in plain sight.

About the author

Clare only took up photography in August 2008, but she quickly discovered a passion for the lens and honed her craft on ducks and geese. She admits that buildings, although they present their own challenges, are much easier to photograph, as they stand still. Clare lives in Coventry with her husband and two cats – none of whom like having their picture taken.
The seed of the book started with taking photographs for a public photography project, which developed into a PDF for the Solo Photo Book Month (SoFoBoMo.org), for which the photographs need to be taken within a 31-day period. The book has been refined since the initial PDF, but the majority of photographs are from that month.
Clare has lived in Coventry for eight years and has come to appreciate the historical side of the city. Shoe would now like to share the hidden side with other people.
